He was on the Nov 7, 1888 Orphan Train that stopped in Carrol, Iowa. He was, along with another boy,Frank'Wendell Holmes'Thiele, taken into the Henry Thiele home and they were raised as their sons, but never legally adopted.<br>Leo was born May 6, 1885 in Manhattan, NY and was placed on the train from the New York Fondling Home by the Sisters of Charity in 1888. <br>He kept the name tag and his small bag that carried his few possessions until the day he died in 1972. We have preserved that bit of history in our family genealogy books.<br>He and Anna were married for 62 years and had 8 children,<br>2 girls and 6 sons. Those living are Clara, Larry, Leo, Henry, Harold. Leona, died at 6 mos from pneumonia and Carl died in WW II in the Battle of the Bulge at 18 yr.<br>My father, Joseph, the oldest of all the sons, passed away May 29, 2000 at the age of 88. <br>In 1930's the family all moved north to Elma, Iowa and remained farmers. <br>Grandpa Leo could play the violin 'fiddle' very well and many of the family are musicians, actors and singers. There is an inbred desire to be on stage and be the center of attention.<br>Presently my brother, Jerome and I are trying to find and connect with the Rivers families in the New York area, hoping that we find relatives and know out true heritage.<br><br>Frank married Annie __?____ and they raised a large family in the Sibley, Iowa area.
